WORN OUT

WORN OUT
1

I'm worn out of pretending,
appearing cheerful
when all I want to
do is weep

I'M WORN OUT...
with the consistency
of judgment—

Worn out of hiding
who I truly am.

Tired of trying
to maintain my strength…

I'm fading out of not letting
go. Let go of anguish
and feelings
that devour me.

I'm sick of feeling
unworthy— I'm worn
out. I'm sick of being
put down by those
I cared about most.

I'm sick of daydreaming
about a life I'll never
have— Fed up with
falling short. I'm worn
out.

I'm sick of remembering
joy I once knew—
I'm sick of blaming
myself every single
day. I'm sick of being
angry— I'm worn out.

I'm sick of crying
in the shower where
no one can hear—

I'm fed up with dread
of being hurt, judged,
abandoned. Weary
of failing… I'm worn
out. I'm sick of waiting
to give up— I'm sick
of being exhausted.
I'm sick of being
myself.

About this poem

What happens when the pain of the world becomes too much to bear? This poem is my truth, my raw and vulnerable confession of being completely worn out.

Recognition of one’s ‘illness’ can be the beginning of one’s transition towards healing. Thank you for this reflection.

Powerful piece and one I think most reading it can relate to at some time or another. It’s healthy to decompress with a good cry. Happens to me when I’m driving and a song plays on the radio that tips over my tear bucket. I always look forward to reading your poetry.
