The Beloved Wish
You were merely like a sister,
Who nursed the breast of my mother;
We kissed at a coming twister,
But treated me like a brother.
For I should never be despised,
I would lead you into my house;
My mother had always chastised,
For desiring you as my spouse.
I would give you spiced wine to drink,
Your left hand was under my head;
Your right hand embraced as you think,
Of heavenly love we are fed.
I adjure you to wake my love,
Not stirring up until it pleases;
Knowing that the Lord up above,
Is causing the gentle breezes.
Who comes up from the wilderness,
And slept under the apple tree;
Where your mother the Lord did bless,
A labor of love did break free.
Set me as a seal on your heart,
To be a seal upon your arm;
Since His Spirit will not depart,
With a love that will never harm.
For love can be stronger than death,
Jealousy is fierce as a grave;
Flashes of fire from the breath,
That passion enabled to slave.
The vehement flame of the Lord,
Cannot quench love of the waters;
For His love cannot be ignored,
A blessing of sons and daughters.
If a man is offered for the love,
Of all the wealth within His house;
Then he would be despised thereof,
To have such a love for his spouse.
