Her Birthday Today

My beloved daughter Bonnie was born
On this day of Eleventh of October
In the year of Nineteen Eighty Four
Thirty six years ago
That is today
When my emotions are running high
And my mind is going astray

She has departed to heavens above
Leaving us destitute and severed
From all semblance of life and reason
To live our lives in grief and isolation

She would be thirty six today
I am old and decrepit
She is up amongst the celestials
Whilst I am habiting amongst the decaying mortals

Emotions run riot at this time of the year
When we should be celebrating
Her birthday with joy and fervour
Instead we are downcasted
With painful memories of yesteryears

Bonnie is gone for ever
But her eternal beauty
Her kindness and love
In our broken hearts
Will linger on for years
