Sad Today

                                        Sad today

I’m quite sad again today, as I confess I am most days.
For someone blessed, Its something I find hard to say.
Being happy and lucky, I really should be feeling gay,
but knowing others suffer, my happiness stays locked
   away.

I once felt no real ambition to become quite so political.
Enveloped in a life of bliss, there was little reason to
   recall,
how cynical and selfish our leaders had become, at all,
until the drums of unfairness and evil, began to call.

They called on me so strongly I was moved to shout
on social media, what I believed, it was really all about.
Monday to Thursdays I choose to stay away from drink,
preferring a clear, unfettered mind, to help me tweet and
   think.

Those weekdays of sobriety, have become a plain
   necessity
to vent my anger and despair, to holler out my sad
   anxieties
about those who we elect, to serve us well and to act
  faithfully,
but who cast us adrift to further their personal
   proclivities.

When Friday evening starts slowly creeping into finally
   appear
I seek a bottle or two, to boost my faith and to dry my
  tears.
To have a weekend of fun away, from the sad realities of
   life
and keep me sane, until the truth of Monday morning
   comes to light.

It’s not for me I shout and fight, for I shall always be
   alright,
but for the poor, my kids, grandchildren and all other
   mites
far less fortunate, who are easy prey and who cannot
   fight.
It is for them I cry, for fairness and for basic human rights.
