Midnight Train

The spaces between where she is and where she's been blur from time to time. She can sometimes recall the moments she was truly herself, a weightless spirit full of life, trying to shake loose the opinions of others who couldn't understand her wild, was one that wasn't ever meant to be shelved.

He was a smooth talker, it made up for all that he lacked, she thought harmless of it she was an adult and did what she wanted as a matter of fact.

She dropped her intentions leaving her standards lying in a pile on the floor. At the time she wouldn't know it but this was the moment the person she was wouldn't exist anymore. She tried hard to conform to the high standards he always held, the asshole couldn't care the tiniest bit about her, he only cared about himself.

He sucked away every part of her soul that gave her that fire she always thought she'd have, all that's left of her now is a shell of that woman and a desire for the life she was always promised she'd have.

At night when her babies were safe and sleeping, beside this monster she had to lie, she'd close her eyes and often let her mind escape to the promise of a painless suicide.

Snapping quickly back to reality when she hears her youngest softly sigh, she'd never leave her daughters to suffer at the hands of the monster he became. She was going to make a life for them and toss this nightmare into hells hottest flame.

She will have to fight hard to reclaim her life, not only for her but for her girls as well, she knew where she was going and she knew she was ready to fight there was no turning back, as hard as it would be she would never give in because she replaced the sadness inside her with a once diminished flame and not even he was prepared for the wildfire she became, she found her strength again, south bound on the midnight train.

About this poem

There is always a lot of stigma around emotional and mental abuse and although it can be misconceived as a softer form of abuse that just isn't the case. See the scars left in your mind don't heal and while you may forgive it's almost impossible to forget. Abuse is abuse in any form, I hope I can reach someone who is or knows someone that is dealing with abuse. Do not think it's over for you, I promise you that you will make it out of this.
