Abandoned soldiers

Abandoned soldiers

Rows of white crosses
headstones without names
silent winds without
in the autumn of our day
where memories fade away
exhausted  used up thrown away
they come home

Against the city streets of angel stares
unnoticed like stone now that their work is done
left wayside to passer bys on the curbs of despair
restitutions of resolutions
of imaginative fines
are the resolutions for tomorrow

Turn their eyes past shadows cast
demons of the mind do quench their wanted souls
to bitter tears left dry
lost to the oblivion of pedestrians
they come home

Parades no more but once a year
ragged arms legs and mind
abandoned on this wanted shore

Those who gave fought and died
through dreams of fear from sleep no more
terror in light of day

Sounds of guns recur through
depths they cannot leap
from blackness of their abyss
the martyred soul do bare

Expendable wasting lives
tormented phantoms of the mind
whose eyes speak through the soul
that cannot speak

On the stage of terror
dreams of horror rescind
to the cold sidewalks
they come home

Deserts of the city and silent to the wind
nightmares undone
healing sleep which life distills
where leaves of grass are tilled
silent coffins gleam amidst the poppy streams
they come home
