Petals
You saw me as a delicate flower. Vibrant and alive. You watched me from afar in all my beauty, full of life. You touched my velvet petals, inhaled my fragrant scent and in the need to fulfill your quest for fulfillment you picked me. I felt honored as you placed me on your mantle, my own pedestal. You delighted in having me there. You would touch me softly, twirl me in your hand and press me to your lips. I was yours to have and you watched me with lust in your eyes and I felt like I had the world. But in time, your touch became vacant. Without it, I started to wilt. You noticed but you did not nourish me with affection. You took away my sunshine and my beauty darkened. I used up all the life I had in my core to sustain but I slowly fell apart. You saw it, picked up my broken pieces, made me comfortable and then disappeared. Soon, I was just a mess so you scooped me up, what was left of me, carried me away and cursed as parts of me fell in disarray at your feet. You threw me away, didn't look back as my final pieces crumbled into dust. I was once a beautiful vibrant red rose, dancing in the wind, thriving in the sunshine and now I' am not even a memory. I deserved love, humility and care but you did not know how to provide it. I loved you but I now wish you had never picked me.
About this poem
I wrote this after a bad breakup. I remember watching a flower I gave my love wither away and die just like our relationship.
