A Fatherly Discipline
Consider who coped with sinners,
Such hostility against Him;
And all of the discipliners,
That were making life very grim.
Grow not weary of fainthearted,
In your struggle against all sin;
Resist till they have departed,
When the shedding of blood will win.
Did you forget the incitement,
In being His sons and daughters;
Do you not feel the excitement,
Felt through the baptismal waters.
View not lightly the discipline,
Nor to be weary of the Lord;
He is merely rebuking sin,
Of the desires you adored.
The Lord disciplines He does love.
Chastise anyone who receives;
Discipline to endure thereof,
In Him as the Father believes.
Those without any discipline,
Considered illegitimate;
Can never be considered kin,
With the Lord never intimate.
Earthly fathers who disciplined,
We had been always respected;
With regret your actions rescind,
By what your father corrected.
Submit to the Father and live,
They chasten us for a short time;
And the willingness to forgive,
For sinfulness of our crime.
He disciplines for our good,
That we may share in holiness;
A painful reminder that it should,
Be more pleasant when we confess.
For righteousness yields peaceful fruit,
To anyone who had been trained;
While nourished deep in your root,
Letting you be righteously gained.
