ask me about that summer
where I fell in love with someone
who was more of a red bougainvillea than girl
aching to be touched
but never showing the thorns
and me, all eager and captivated
too naive to acknowledge the danger of her beauty
cutting myself on her before it was too late to back away
ask me about the summer
I dreamed about loving her forever despite the risk she was
