Some things are special because they don’t last

Some things are special because they don’t last
For time runs fast in moments of bliss
Life is short - tis a sin to waste it on the past

Who we’ll become we know not - when the die is cast
New opportunities go amiss while dwelling on that solitary kiss
Some things are special because they don’t last

Memories deceive, conjuring visions of joy unsurpassed
But the folly lies in chasing dreams that don’t exist
Life is short so don’t waste it on the past

Courage to stand tall when love is dashed
Though, this same love plays her magic to help reminisce
That some things are special because they don’t last

With love's end, new chapters are amassed
Embrace the future, let go of what you'll miss
For life is short, so don't waste it on the past

Discover the beauty in moments unsurpassed
Embrace the present, cherish the love you can enlist
Some things are special because they don’t last
Life is short, so don't waste it on the past

Very Solomonic is this poem, registering the sentiments of someone in the second half of his life re-evaluating what his priorities should be at this time, similar to the expressions of King Solomon in the book of Ecclesiastes towards the end of his life.
