Vanity of vanities

What good is a king?
No, really, what good is a king?
He can rule the largest kingdom,
But what good is his fief?
For when the walls come crashing down,
And his kingdom is gone.
The people are sure to turn their backs because:
“His judgment was flawed.”

So who am I?
Am I the people? Or maybe the king?
I spend too much time wondering who it is I could be.
Yet in this play we call life,
Everybody’s given a part.
In the end it’s all the same,
You are who you are.

So, what’s the point?
When value is measured by material wealth,
And people would rather be blind,
Than find true value themselves.
I found my value when I introduced my paper to pen,
Giving life to word and thought,
creating reason within.
For when the walls come crashing down,
And my kingdom is gone.
I want my will to be remembered,
And my words to live on:
“Vanity, all is vanity.”
