Clueless Convalescence
Age
When were young
Age is all the rage
As the tomorrows expire
They turn our page
And bind us to our life’s cage
It seems silly
That wisdom arrives so late
We could have used that info
To better choose our fate
I feel that aging is unfair
I wished I had been aware
And did more self-care
But I spent my youth
Like I was rich
Too eager to scratch
That adolescence itch
I was in too much of a hurry
Now reflection is somewhat blurry
A second chance is a favor I wish to curry
To see the progression
Reveals my confession
That I have an obsession
To deny time its prize
Of my mortal demise
And allow death to rise
I simply refuse its delivery
Return to sender
A second youth
I wish to render
With the knowledge I now possess
I would make an excellent contender
An unstoppable defender
Of the gift of life
Offered to me
Do you understand?
Do you see?
The speed at which existence progresses
Is offensive to me
I want more time
I want a repeat
I want another chance
I crave more meat
Of life’s feast
It’s not that I am bitter
I’ve just realized
I’ve spent to much time on the shitter
Watching the swirl of humanity’s toilet bowl
To easily distracted
Hopelessly refracted
And negatively impacted
Now that I know
I am good to go
Though to old and slow
To restart and regrow
It’s a frustrating
Quandary to face
To watch time march on
While you stay in place
To be in a prison
Of your own design
And deny yourself the key
Never allowing parole
To set yourself free
I am the greatest enemy
Of me
