A Fleeting Embrace

A stray leaf
Brushes your shoulder
In the breeze
And sees the real you

It sees hats
Changed like underwear
Just briefly
For the games you play

Your mask masks
Your soul that knows you –
The real you
Hidden deep in heart

Your purpose
Is what defines you
Belying
What is your essence

Through soft air
I flit and flutter
In your wake -
A fleeting embrace

A brief touch
Your quick glance sideways
Senses me
So, I stay a while

Why do I
Remain in your shadow
Like a nymph
Lost in your sentient?

I should leave
I’ve touched you gently
But I can’t -
I can only wait.

About this poem

3oth April will be my husband's 74th birthday and I will celebrate it with his spirit that is always with me. I feel his touch, see his energy and hear his words. This poem has no punctuation as our love has no end... it continues as he waits for me...
