Trust and Alone

I think back on my life right now
I wonder how I made it these 53 years
Since childhood I believed in people
Tried to look for good in all.

Call it being gullible, ignorant, stupid
There is no perfect male or female on this earth
That my friend is very true and proven
This is not a dream world or wishful thinking.

In trusting others I have paid the price
From being in love to being a simple friend
Strangers on the street and the occasional vagrant
Oblivious to the fact they had their own agendas.

I guess it's a part of survival on their part
It doesn't make it right but it is a problem
I guess I feel if I don't trust those to be entrusted
I'll never have a friend and wonder "what if"?

I myself am a true friend and confidant
I am not out to scam, steal, and be cruel
I need to once be treated as I treat others
I don't want to be alone but if I have to I will.

If there is someone out there who is real
Someone who is there for me as I am for them
They are not trying take advantage of me
I would like it to be known right away to me.

Be the best friend I could ever hope for
I will accept you and your faults no matter what
Always be honest, nonjudgmental, and sincere
Its about trust and security or no friends at all.
