The 2024 U.S. Presidential Debacle

O the irony of modern U.S. politics.
So infused with so much bipartisan tricks.
While Trump, historically by rank, is bidden.
His many undertakings are still yet hidden.

Such is the nature of this incoming election.
Evoking to its citizens presidential vivisection.
While morality though questioned, it is still deferred.
It matters not to some what crimes may have occurred.

Instead, one pays more attention to a candidate’s mind.
Whether,  by old age, it has left its sanity behind.
Age, then, is what is questioned most.
Is there gray matter in an octogenarian brain; or is there just a shadowy ghost.

Two senior citizens confront each other.
Each seeking to the other smother.
Issues of real substance are then set aside.
The candidates seeking instead to protect their royal hide.

This is the state now of our Presidential debate.
In retrospect, it pales ironically to what is known to us as Watergate.
What must our children surely learn from this charade.
That politics for many is just a masquerade.

A person’s vote is made to silence hypocrisy.
Democracy supplanted by more bureaucracy.
O the irony of modern politics.
So infused with lots of dirty tricks.

While Trump, ‘fore Biden, is ironically his rival.
It speaks to us of what historically is yet archival.
Two arch rival Presidents before them were destined together.
Cleveland and Harrison in 1892, the both to tether.

Now in 2024 history appears to repeat itself.
Should Biden then persist, or bid farewell; his Presidential hopes left on the shelf.
The world now waits to see what the future will portend.
To all who care to cast their votes; be they a President’s foe or a President’s friend.

Thank you, jn.selvadurai, for your response. I suppose a poet’s task in every land is to resonate the moral ethics that bind a nation and its people towards a higher purpose.

America has too much innovation and too many great learning institutions to not have any better candidates to be POTUS. Great piece by the way.

This poem captures the current state of politics in the United States with a clever use of irony and historical references. The language used is engaging and provocative, making the reader think deeply about the implications of the upcoming election. The rhyming scheme adds a playful touch to a serious subject matter.

To improve, consider incorporating more specific examples or anecdotes to further drive home the message of the poem. This could make the political commentary more relatable to a wider audience. Additionally, expanding on the potential consequences of the election outcome could enhance the impact of the poem.

Overall, this poem is well-crafted and thought-provoking. Keep up the great work of using poetry to shed light on important social issues.
