Conversing with Sadness

I’m having a conversation with sadness. - She’s standing alone in the midst of no where, with the trees, brush, flowers & life of creatures that surround her. She’s standing alone with the echo of crickets in the morning of foggy dew not near or far. I’m having a conversation with sadness. She’s standing alone with no one in sight, no one to hear, no one to understand. She’s standing alone against the cold winds and the trembling chills that hug her pallid skin. I’m having a conversation with sadness. She’s amongst the rigid rain drops that fall down on her. The ones that seem to fall harder with each fight. The ones that seem to get colder with each breath of light. I’m having a conversation with sadness. She makes her way into my body and fills my stomach with rocks and shame. The pain that only carries further into my brain. The pain that only subdues with a mask, with vain. Im lost. I’m having a conversation with sadness. She’s dark. Shes resilient. She’s of reach. Shes always here. She’s never leaving. I’m having a conversation with sadness.

About this poem

Sadness is something almost external, yet inescapable—like it finds its way into you no matter how much you wish to keep it out. No matter how horrible it makes you feel.
