Easy on Myself

And today I tried to remember a time or more that I gave myself a pat on the back
To go back and think of the time when I said thank you to myself for all the times that I had my own back

I tried to remember and think about when I recognized and acknowledged the steps that I have taken to progress
All I could think of is how far I am and how long I am going to take till I am done with the process

Instead of saying thank you to the man in the mirror all I could think of is putting the blame on me
And all that I ended up saying was shame on me

I then reminded myself of how cold this world and all its inhabitants are
How they pretend to care and love while there is none their hearts
I reminded that myself that this life is already hard
That we are all going through a lot and it doesn't even matter who we are

I reminded myself that there will always be adversity and there is a cure, that is, self love and care, and that is the only recipe

I made a promise that I will love myself and stand by my side even when no one is
I promised myself that I will be the one to teach myself what true love is

I promised myself that I will be there for me
That I will provide all the necessary care for me

I told myself that from now I will count even the smallest of the blessings
I told myself that I will never give up on my passions

I made a vow to go easy on myself.

About this poem

We get so stuck on counting our flaws/wrongs instead of being positive and giving ourselves the necessary care, a bit of love and counting our blessings. This poem reminds us that we should not only focus on our wrongs. We are only human
