The Art of Sucking the Life Out
In the art of letting go….
When it's been the art of holding on, all along.
Didn't you know?
Ok, let's play pretend,
Say you get away,
You made it out the door,
It's ok Mama, you can take your finger off the trigger now.
You did it! ….you did it…
Do you feel better?
Do you feel free?
You should, right?
Miles away,
Nobody is in your review…
Are you free?
Do you feel free?
Therapists’ say the voices will go away,
Eventually, of course.
But they don't.
….they don't.
You still hear them.
They don't stop.
They don't quit, or give up,
They don't give you a God damn break!
But you don't want them to.
You do,
You left for a reason,
Just the sound of the voices make you so sick to your stomach.
They'll play you,
Just like he did.
Right when you think you have a moment of silence,
A moment to yourself,
A moment of no noise,
No voices, no whispers,
Nobody's home,
HELLO!
Finally…
A split second to hear…
Absolutely nothing….
You go on with the rest of the night.
Get ready for bed,
Do your normal routine,
Just breathe….
*whispers*
*faint talking*
You can’t tell if it’s them,
Or if it’s you….
You try to ignore it,
Continuing with the rest of your routine.
You finish up,
Turn the lights off,
TV on, fan on,
Any and everything to drown out the voices….
You try to keep your mind focused on something,
Just one thing,
Escape the world around you,
Some nights it works,
And you fall asleep,
Maybe even with a smile on your face,
Warm arms wrapped around you,
Holding you tight,
Keeping you safe…
….and some nights,
It doesn’t work.
Your mind tries to make out every word,
Every whisper,
Before you know it, you lost track of time,
And your mind…
Well, maybe you never really had control of it to begin with…
Maybe while you thought you were letting go,
You were only letting it suck the life out of you,
Just like he did…
Hypothetically speaking,
Of course
