Shooting Straight

Dreams in mind of muscle hunted—prey pursued in
Instants it is glimpsed by sporting men who follow
Harts unbound—with these in mind, and with skin hued in
Moonlight, I exert what force I can with elbows,
Shoulders, thighs—all under legal limits allow,
Sizewise.  From outside, a mating call—the throb of
Stereo that breaks the steamy night like bone now.
Neighbor boy alights.  Above, no eagle could have
Clearer view of prey.  Nocturnal summer climate’s
Nothing to the blue of skin in sodium sight—
Circle, shadows shape a bull’s-eye.  Fauna flaunts its
Colors thus.  While I remain obscured by moonlight,
Stags in leather hides go stalking.  And behind this
Blind a solitary hunt continues.  Mirror
Image searches elsewhere.  Will he ever find his
Own pursuer, or will that game draw no nearer?
