Stranger

Poem

Stranger

I saw your retreating back, a shadow at the park.

Pierced eyes shield by clear glasses, dressed in black, your slender body moved swiftly through the fog.

Memories of what you did last night rolling over in my head.

Lips dry, I swallowed, standing next to my car like a statue.

What is this unwelcome yearning, warming my body, leaving my fingers cold like ice.

My toes are prickling and numb. You walk by, the stare is exhausting.

The words are stuck in my throat. They are completely incompetent to describe the feeling of lust, loss and longing.

Until we meet again my friend or enemy, whoever you are!

Haunting and evocative, this piece beautifully captures the tension between desire and distance. The imagery is striking, making the unseen feel vividly present. Well done.
