Elegy to Nico

Soft, gentle guitar strums
A creamy, morning coffee melody
One to watch the raindrops as they slide
And a distant thunder rages in

This, I have been fated to live on by,
Either by my mother or my God
As I entered a harsh, jarring world
Tears welling in my eyes, flowing down
my rosy cheeks, it was decided
My existence, my being,
shall be an ode to her sweet song

And though this I do triumph
I lack something of my own,
For it has been reserved
by the memory of one
who has left so long ago,
And has marked history
with rich melodies

And so I wonder, what I shall
have to do to claim something
given to me in honor
of someone else?

And to Nico, I mourn and mourn
for her honor shall never be her own

About this poem

If I am named as a tribute to someone else, who am I to become?
