Analysis of Good night Good Knight

Was courage felled the dragon
And turned it into a mouse
That then squeaked and squealed and scurried
Back to the shadows of the house
With it took the breathlessness
Also with it took the fears
And with it took the trembling bones
And also with it took the tears
The next days sun seemed brighter
Than had ever seemed before
New hope now filled a little heart
When little feet did hit the floor
Life then on, was not easy
For easy, life should not be
But now appeared the happy things
That dragons do not let one see
Joy replaced despair that night
As if new life had begun
That good night the Good Knight Billy
Stood so brave and slayed the dragon

About this poem

From ages 2 through 6, I was abused physically and emotionally by a caretaker. I suffered in dreadful silence. When I was six, during one of the more terrible beatings, my 8yr old brother walked in. He was not at all afraid, he was not at all quite and the abuse ended. I am forever grateful.
