Analysis of EVEN DOVES CAN DIE

EVEN DOVES CAN DIE

In the Park the children laugh and play
Near by the Lovers kiss and walk their way
An explosion roars without warning
Lives changed forever this morning
The Lover hears his loves final cry
She leaves this world where even doves can die

The drums of war start their beat
Echoing through each empty street
People cry, “Raise our nation!
Our strength shall be salvation!”
The nations flags kiss the sky
In this world where even doves can die

The Lover blinks, to clear his head
His love is lost, forever dead
Now this dove has become a hawk
With a soldier's look and killer’s walk
‘Cause he never learned to say goodbye
In this world where even doves can die

The cannon fire, a demonic roar
Missiles fly the Hell of war
Eagles rise, Hawks will fight
They know the cause is right
Still they hear every mother's cry
In this world where even doves can die

The Lovers a hawk with a broken wing
Paid the prices hawk’s duty will bring
In his final moments he sees his lost love
At her smile the hawk becomes a dove
So at last he learns goodbye
Joins his love where doves don't die

About this poem

This isn't an anti war poem. Nor is it an anti peace poem. As a soldier who's been to war I know how horrid war is. Yet I'm not a pacifist. The bad guys don't care if you're a dove or a hawk, they'll kill you just the same. Personally I don't think we'll find lasting peace until Heaven. The best we can hope for us moments of peace as in the park before the explosion
