THE POWER

JP.

THE POWER

There’s strontium ninety in the air
They say they need some power to spare
And all the while pretence to be Green
Shrouds the nuclear power unseen
No Coal, no oil, gas comes from a Tsar
Uranium rains from a heaven bound star
No heed at all paid to what it means
The Bulldozers await or so it seems

There was a time when nuclear was bad
A passing mistake, a wanton fad
Yet still they account for twenty percent
Of the wasted energy carelessly spent
The white trains trundled the waste away
Through cities and towns most every day
And with each new accident something died
It was safe they said but we know they lied

Now the emphasis has shifted to Green
But the hidden agenda, obscure, not seen
We can have the renewable at a price
And the price an alternative not very nice
For each new scheme that’s clean and green
Three more nuclear piles will soon be seen
They call it a trade of and still say its cool
Is it us or themselves they are trying to fool?

Their plan on the surface to dam the Bore
They know the controversy will come for sure
Diverting concern from nuclear power
As they sacrifice a project they want to turn sour
And whilst we a saving wildlife on the river
They insert the nuclear sliver by sliver
Clandestinely showing two faces that smile
Yet covertly favouring the nuclear pile

They once said no way it will have to be Green
No more will the Becquerel meters be seen
They once took to task the man of the day
For doing what they do tomorrow, today
But where will they build these Cathedrals of power
To quash the great crisis of this final hour
Will it be in Scotland or Ireland or Wales?
No it will be in England as the Union pales
