As We Believe
As We Believe
Author: Mark V. Markov
As we believe
As we call
On God's Holy name
Letting go
Of all foolish pride
Tonight
We're changed by God's everlasting light
Tonight
With the Holy fire in our eyes
Tonight
We're full of everlasting life
With the never ending love
We are renewed within
We are reconciled to God
Being full of joy
And full of life
As we believe
As we call
On God's Holy name
Letting go
Of all pride
Tonight
We're changed by God's everlasting light
Tonight
With the Holy fire in our eyes
Tonight
We're full of everlasting life
O Holy Spirit lead us
O Holy Spirit guide us
Be always in our heart, mind, and soul
Our body is Your temple
Please never let us go
Tonight
We're changed by God's everlasting light
Tonight
With the Holy fire in our eyes
Tonight
We're full of everlasting life
With the never ending love
We are renewed within
We are reconciled to God
Being full of joy
And full of life
As we believe
As we call
On God's Holy name
Letting go
Of all arrogance
Letting go
Of all foolish pride
Tonight
We're changed by God's everlasting light
Tonight
With the Holy fire in our eyes
Tonight
We're full of everlasting life...
Psalm 138:6 (ESV)
6
For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
but the haughty he knows from afar.
Psalm 34:18 (ESV)
18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.
Isaiah 57:14-19 (ESV)
14
And it shall be said,
“Build up, build up, prepare the way,
remove every obstruction from my people's way.”
15
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
16
For I will not contend forever,
nor will I always be angry;
for the spirit would grow faint before me,
and the breath of life that I made.
17
Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry,
I struck him; I hid my face and was angry,
but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart.
18
I have seen his ways, but I will heal him;
I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners,
19
creating the fruit of the lips.
Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the Lord,
“and I will heal him.
Isaiah 66:1-5 (ESV)
The Humble and Contrite in Spirit
1 Thus says the Lord:
“Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool;
what is the house that you would build for me,
and what is the place of my rest?
2
All these things my hand has made,
and so all these things came to be,
declares the Lord.
But this is the one to whom I will look:
he who is humble and contrite in spirit
and trembles at my word.
3
“He who slaughters an ox is like one who kills a man;
he who sacrifices a lamb, like one who breaks a dog's neck;
he who presents a grain offering, like one who offers pig's blood;
he who makes a memorial offering of frankincense, like one who blesses an idol.
These have chosen their own ways,
and their soul delights in their abominations;
4
I also will choose harsh treatment for them
and bring their fears upon them,
because when I called, no one answered,
when I spoke, they did not listen;
but they did what was evil in my eyes
and chose that in which I did not delight.”
5
Hear the word of the Lord,
you who tremble at his word:
“Your brothers who hate you
and cast you out for my name's sake
have said, ‘Let the Lord be glorified,
that we may see your joy’;
but it is they who shall be put to shame.
