Young Life

Don't sweat the big things
It's the little things
That count for many blessings,
Like owning your very first jack knife !

A boy's dream - flying your first kite
So high, you could not see it,
Made of newspaper and sticks so light
I flew it because I was the pilot !

How about building your first birdhouse
Made of small twigs and glue,
Little wrens  made it a playhouse
Brothers and sisters always arguing !

The first time you caught a fish
Had worms, too big a hook,
Smaller hook and silver paper was my wish,
Caught 13 herring, easy like reading a book !

My very first paper route,
Working 6 days a week
Paid $3.00 through rain wind  and sun
I delivered all 120 of them !

I planted my first garden
Yellow beans, radishes and carrots,
Like magic, they came up
I didn't have to plant the weeds !

Football  was my favorite sport,
Kicking was my forte,
Never missed any extra points
Won a school championship in 1948 !
