The Warning...
The Warning… by Tosin Kesington
The Cat and the Mouse
Live in the same house
The cat lays alert and quiet
Waiting to make the mouse a diet
The mouse foolishly runs around
Oblivious of what Omen looms around.
The mother mouse warns her own
The house is never theirs alone
Never to run with abandoned freedom
Hence, end like Mousie Jack and Tom
Who didn’t think it twice
Dropped guard and ran amok
With tails mucked under a rock
Yes, their tales of woes
And follies made their fame
A warning it also became to those
Who despise to live a life of shame
For a snack the mouse will be
To the patient feline for free
Or simply thrown away as crap
for lust of cheese soaked in trap
For all saw not a mystery
His foolish path ending in misery
Alas! blessed is the shrewd mouse
Who threads carefully
Knowing many are watching earnestly
To get him ensnared in the house
For unspoken laws must not be broken
Else, he becomes nothing but a token
About this poem
The poem is written as a forewarning to individuals to thread carefully on their earthly sojourn. They should be mindful of foes who live among them and will be more than willing to cut them short if they are not prudent in their doings and dealings. The poem is also reminder that one is not loved by everyone even if they all live or work in a place. Moreover, One should not be too carefree or end up in a complete mess. The reward of being foolish or wise is themed in the poem. more »
