The Chant For War

THE CHANT FOR “ WAR!”

It's easy to chant for "War!"
When your child isn’t  torn and scarred,
Nor ripped apart for beasts to gnaw,
While predators feast and discard.

It's easy to chant for "War!"
When your kin’s heads aren’t on the ground,
Your sons, daughters, wives—no more,
With their scattered bodies all around.

It's easy to chant for "War!"
When your blood isn’t what pours,
Nor your water frozen in grief to the core,
Nor your wailing tears in endless scores.

It's easy to chant for "War!"
When your table isn't dressed in grief,
Nor spiced with  deadly hunger and more,
And your night isn’t robbed of relief.

It's easy to chant for "War!"
When you're safe from arsenal’s roar,
Not displaced by bombs that soar,
Nor live in dread of  terror and more.

It's easy to chant for "War!"
When you're the general  in command,
Not the civilian feeling poor,
At fate's cruel and heavy hand.

It's so easy to chant  for "War"
When lives and rights you ignore,
Feigning what you don't adore,
While you live safely forevermore!

About this poem

The poem "THE CHANT FOR 'WAR!'" highlights the hypocrisy and privilege of those who advocate for war without experiencing its devastating consequences. It emphasizes the ease of calling for war when one is insulated from its horrors, contrasting the grim realities faced by those directly affected by conflict with the detachment and indifference of those who promote it. The poem serves as a critique of warmongering and a call for empathy and understanding towards the true costs of warfare.
