One in a million shot

If I were a betting line
No punter would bet on me
For the odds of my being
Are too long to fit on paper

Consider the fact of existence
The long long odds that things are
Instead of their not being
And thus making my odds nil

Consider the fact of life
The very long odds of living cells
Dead and inert physical matter
Coalescing in such a way as to be sentient

Consider the fact of planet earth
The long odds of its being just right
Not too close or too far from the sun
Thus not too hot or too cold to hold life

Consider, finally, the fact of sperms
That out of millions of sperms
Mine was the fastest and most accurate
One in a million shot
