Pronoun
you're a pronoun
shifting referent
like a ghost in the machine
of my affections.
like a simile
comparing nothing to nothing,
the brink of similarity
yawns open.
a phrase that performs
social nicety or
genuine sentiment?
the difference is lost.
in the haze of
linguistic habit
meaning dissolves
like a sugar cube.
