ASYLUM

Verse 1:

Locked in this white room, echoes of my past,

Strapped in a strait jacket, my mind aghast,

Overdosed on pills that paint my world so dim,

Lost in this asylum, can't find my way to swim.

Chorus:

Caged melodies in my mind, echoes of what's left behind,

Invisible chains hold me tight, under fluorescent lights,

Drifting in a medicated haze, trying to break free of this craze,

In this asylum of my mind, searching for a way to find.

Verse 2:

Flashbacks of a childhood playground, laughter in the air,

Now all I see are shadows, lost in my despair,

They say it's for my own good, to keep me safe and sound,

But I long to feel alive, to break free from this bound.

Chorus:

Caged melodies in my mind, echoes of what's left behind,

Invisible chains hold me tight, under fluorescent lights,

Drifting in a medicated haze, trying to break free of this craze,

In this asylum of my mind, searching for a way to find.

Bridge:

Memories of a life once lived, now a distant dream,

Feeling like a prisoner in a silent scream,

But I hold on to fragments of hope, a light in the dark,

Believing one day I'll find my spark.

Chorus:

Caged melodies in my mind, echoes of what's left behind,

Invisible chains hold me tight, under fluorescent lights,

Drifting in a medicated haze, trying to break free of this craze,

In this asylum of my mind, searching for a way to find.

Outro:

I sing these caged melodies, a symphony of my pain,

Hoping that one day, I'll dance in the rain,

For now, I'll keep holding on, to the flickering light,

In this asylum of my mind, I'll continue to fight.

About this poem

I spent years in and out of mental rehabilitation centers, which made matters worse instead of the help they promised, the years of mental warfare and torture I suffered I felt alone, and I want at least one person to feel heard and not so alone.
