The Day Anna Fell

I remember the day Anna fell,
Part of her once beautiful throat,
Slashed off by whistling bullets,
With blood oozing off and damaged tendons dangling lifelessly,
Barely hanging onto one another, like dead twigs on dying branches,
Never to see her teenage daughter graduate in two weeks,

I remember the day Anna fell,
Peace, shattered by billowing dust, flying metals and raging hell,
With a bereaved cry,
I dropped my sanity and motherhood,
Charging forward towards unrepentant storm of enemy bullets,
For the freedom of my country men,
And love for my fallen best friend.

(Dedicated to all female soldiers across the globe… for the sacrifice, immeasurable.)
