The Outcast

Sten W. Raish 1985 (Owosso, MI)

A family outcast may feel alone,
Like a climber on a peak unknown.
The summit calls, the climb is steep,
A challenge that may make you weep.

The air is thin, the path is tough,
But every step, you climb enough.
The mountain's peak is your true goal,
The struggle worth it for your soul.

Like swimming in the widest rivers,
The waters may be dark and shiver.
Your family may not understand,
But you still swim to reach dry land.

The current pulls, the waves crash high,
But you still push, you still try.
The river's end is your new start,
And you will find your way, your heart.

So take heart, you family outcast,
Like climbing and swimming, life goes fast.
Embrace your journey, take the lead,
For you alone know your own need.

About this poem

This is a poem about my personal struggles. It was written to give others in the same situation hope and strength to continue to fight for dry land, especially when they feel like they are drowning in life.
