4 minutes ago, my friend texted me and didn’t think anything about it. I was busy.
We don’t talk much but when we do, it’s nice.
So when I put my busyness aside, I texted back “Sorry I was so busy tonight.”
They responded with “I miss our time together and to be honest I need a friend. Maybe we can hang out again?”
I sat and typed up a message that I found myself very familiar with “Well work has been busy and my schedule has been tight but I promise you I will find some time.”
9 minutes ago my friend texted me, “Hey, I’m free all week. I’ve been feeling lonely. Do you think we could meet up and grab a coffee?”
I was in the middle of something so of course I didn’t respond. Left it on read and moved on.
4 minutes ago my friend texted me, “Listen I know you’re busy you always are, but you have no idea what’s been going on. I just wanna talk.”
staring at my phone I think to myself this crap is getting old. so I typed and sent “No! I’ve told you I’m busy. Please just leave me alone!”
7 minutes ago I texted my friend, “Hey listen I love you and I'm sorry, I know I've been busy, but I'm free tonight. I'm here for you if you are struggling.”
Waited all night and not a single message back.
6 minutes ago I just got the call. The call where their mom was crying and yelling “They ended it all.” I don't think I've ever felt my heart drop so deep. All I could think about was how badly you must have been struggling.
Every minute
The 4 minutes,
The 9 minutes,
The 4 minutes,
The 7 minutes,
And the 6 minutes all mattered.
If I had not pushed you away you would have still been here till this day.
Since you've been gone, I've learned a lot
I've learned that most people don't care till it is too late.
And every year there are 49, 476 suicides in the United States.
If I have to tell you anything, please care so that way it never becomes too late.
