Within My Heart You’ll Always Be

Within My Heart You’ll Always Be

You’ve been here since your very start,
And here you’ll stay, you’ll always be
Within your grandma’s loving heart,
A very special part of me

If you get lost, no path in sight,
In my heart you’ll find your way
A beacon that will shed its light,
To see you through to better days

When I’m no longer in your view,
But high among the brightest star
Forever will I be with you,
For you’ll be always in my heart

See my smile in cloudless skies,
Recall me in sweet scent of flowers
Know my love in happiest times —
Know my love in darkest hours

Feel me in the strength of mountains,
And in the peace of deepest sea
I’ll share my spirit from the heavens,
You’ll always have the best of me

And when you look into your own,
It’s my reflection you will see
You’ll never walk this life alone,
Within my heart you’ll always be

About this poem

Too often we’re afraid to share our feelings with someone we love. This poem describes the regret one feels for letting the opportunity to do so, go by.

Susan Mayer Brumel

A few years ago, I retired from a thirty-five year career in hospice counseling, at which time I began writing poetry. My poems are influenced by my patients’ journeys, the compelling beauty of nature, and the human condition. A lover of all animals and most people, I enjoy spending time in nature, long walks, and reading Pablo Neruda, Blake, William Carlos Williams, James Joyce, Mary Oliver, Emily Dickinson, Maya Angelou, Leonard Cohen, and more. Baudelaire tells us to ‘be drunk’ on something every day; I am drunk on poetry and intend never to be sober! more…

I think watching a child develop and grow is one of the most rewarding things on the planet. The odd thing is you never think they're dumb because they don't know something, you just think, "You haven't learnt it yet, but you will." And there is such delight in watching them learn and grow.

Thank you, Randy. My kids are going to move to South Carolina. This grandma is feeling a bit emotional. As always , I appreciate your kind words.
