Empty Shell

Tonya Richardson 1968 (Mississippi)

A shadow lost in the dark, a lonely silhouette,
Controlled by the strings of depression, like a sad marionette.
A tiny speck that no one seems to see,
Looking out at the world longing to be free.
Drowning in a sea of tears,
Held prisoner by the shackles of hopelessness and fears.
Feeling empty and useless like an old tree stump,
Fighting the urge to just close my eyes and jump.
