If I Could Let My Soul Feel the Sky

If I Could Let My Soul Feel the Sky
2

Born when the sun dipped low,
The air thick with the promise of snow,
The evening light, soft and kind,
Marking the start of a soul designed.
Born on a date that holds no claim,
Yet the world would know my name.

From early days, the lessons began,
In the silence, I learned who I am.
The path was never smooth or straight,
But each step forward sealed my fate.
Through the years, with battles untold,
I wore my scars like threads of gold.

The fight within was fierce, unseen,
A battle of mind, a war of being.
In the shadows, I stumbled, I fell,
The chains of addiction, a heavy shell.
The weight of opiates pulled me low,
But deep within, a light would glow.

The war within my soul raged on,
Through sleepless nights and breaking dawn.
The road was dark, the pain was real,
Yet something within refused to kneel.
I found the strength to face the storm,
To heal, to rise, to be reborn.

I fought the demons that clawed and screamed,
Through days I felt like I wasn’t seen.
But in the quiet, I learned to trust,
That though the world may break, it must adjust.
I rebuilt my heart, brick by brick,
Each victory small, yet firm and thick.

If I could let my soul feel the sky,
I’d spread my wings, I’d learn to fly.
Each gust of wind, each pull of air,
Would lift me higher, beyond despair.
I’d soar above the clouds and see
The vastness of what I could truly be.

The sky, it whispers tales untold,
Of those who fell but turned to gold.
A canvas of blue, vast and wide,
Reflecting all the love I hide.
For in my heart, there’s endless space,
A place for dreams, for hope, for grace.

But the path to the sky is never free,
It’s paved with struggle, shaped by me.
The nights I spent locked in my mind,
Were moments where my soul aligned.
For every tear, there’s a lesson learned,
In every scar, a strength earned.

Through military halls and distant lands,
I learned to stand with steady hands.
I saw the world through different eyes,
Where sacrifice and honor rise.
The service taught me discipline’s art,
To lead, to follow, to heal the heart.

But battles outside are nothing, dear,
To the ones we face within, year after year.
The pain of loss, the weight of fear,
All are heavy, all are near.
But through it all, I stand and rise,
With grit in my soul, a fire in my eyes.

If I could let my soul feel the sky,
I’d paint with colors no one could deny.
Each hue, a shade of all I’ve known,
The grief, the love, the seeds I’ve sown.
For every storm I’ve weathered through,
Has shaped the strength inside of you.

The journey’s long, the road is wide,
Yet with each step, I have my guide.
The sky above, the earth below,
Remind me of the seeds I grow.
The winds will carry me far and high,
If I let my soul feel the sky.

For in that freedom, I am whole,
In every breath, in every goal.
The past may whisper, but I move on,
With the strength of the mountains, with the strength of the dawn.
If I could let my soul feel the sky,
There’d be no limit to how high I could fly.

About this poem

Life is tough for everyone, it's how you handle and interact with it that makes a person. Example: Bravery isn't the absence of fear it's what you do in spite of fear despite the dangers! Toughness isn't being physically strong because true strength is in raw emotions, and in the strength of the mind. Example: Being able to allow yourself to not only express your very fiber in words and sharing it with the world on Poetry.com. This is that very moment for me. "Hi everyone, I wanted to share some thoughts about my poem If I Could Let My Soul Feel the Sky. To me, this piece is about more than just freedom—it’s about connection, vulnerability, and allowing ourselves to truly feel the infinite possibilities around us. Writing it made me think about the times when I’ve felt most alive—moments when I let go of my fears and embraced the unknown, just like opening my soul to the sky. I’d love to hear how this resonates with you. What does the sky symbolize in your life? Does it remind you of hope, freedom, or maybe even something more profound?"

"I also think this poem speaks to our shared humanity. We all have moments when we feel trapped or weighed down, and the idea of letting your soul 'feel the sky' might be a way to reconnect with what’s bigger than ourselves. For me, it’s an image of peace and possibility, but I’m curious—how would you let your soul 'feel the sky'? What does that phrase mean to you? Let’s explore this together."
