The Ebb

We will die quietly amidst the noise,
the ruckus, the morning rush,
the impatient mothers and screaming children,
and workers rushing to work.

We will pass away
amidst the gawkers, the passer-bys
and the watchers,
who document our last minutes
for their audience to
watch in delightful horror,
and emoji our passage from life

We become actors in our snuff movies

We will pass quietly or horribly,
inconveniencing loved ones,
who would rather be far away from us
while we fight to stay.
Loved ones who have created
their memories of us
to be forgotten
after the first memorial.

We will ebb away
amidst the half-read books
uncompleted projects
painful memories
and happy memories
forgotten thoughts
and conceptualized thoughts
