Sarracenia

caught in the heart’s torrents
I drown from your love
because it was a potion for my pain
mutualistic thoughts of love locked only in mind
confined by silk threads weaved throughout time
you were like a flower
and I, a bee
allured by your sweet fragrance
you intoxicated me
you pulled me in and showed the way out but by then you knew I couldn’t leave
inundated as your love reigned and rained down from above
dissolving me into my simplest parts
to become the nourishment you need to capture others’ hearts

About this poem

This poem is about one-sided love and its effects. There’s a parallel with carnivorous plants and how using mutualism between flowers and insects is advantageous to capturing prey. Just like one-sided love can lead to one partner getting all the benefits while the other can suffer and ultimately lead to great misfortune.

Perhaps the most intoxicating aspect of your love is the uncertainty. Does she know the depths of your emotions, or is she oblivious to the turmoil she's stirred within you? The silence is deafening, and the only way to shatter the illusion is to confess your true feelings. Will you find the courage to reveal your heart, or will you remain forever entrapped in the silence?
