Whirlwind

Whirlwind

There’s a commotion in the staff room.
“Hey what’s up? What’s happening?”
“An influencer is coming,” someone said
Suddenly all my clothes get thrown out
My walk-in closet emptied for her
For her clothes and entourage
“What about me?” I cried to no avail

Then she walked in with her picture-perfect smile
Wavy blonde hair bouncing on her shoulders
Ritzy shopping bags in both hands
Talk about swank!
Then our eyes met
Attraction at first sight
“This must be a dream; I can’t believe it!”

Next thing I know we are google-eyed for each other
Snowboarding down a glistening grassy hill
Invisible snowboard bouncing our feet along the path
“Wait, wait! You’re getting too far ahead of me
I can’t see you ‘round the bend! Where did you go?”
I crash into the forest below
“Where did you go? Where did you go?”

I wake up to my cousin calling me,
“Grisha, G-R-I-S-H-A!”
She’s gone to the bathroom again
The bedside commode bucket needs changing
And that girl – that influencer
She’s the blond on the sitcom cop show I watched last night
The grassy hills and forests – the place where I’d like to go.
