The Poet by russ mckay

He could wring emotion from a stone
Predict a love before it's grown
The words flowed steadily from his pen
New poems emerged again and again

There was no subject he didn't cover
Pleasing every poetry lover
It was so easy every time
To bring much happiness with his rhyme

His fans brought fame from land to land
And praised the genius of his hand
His words were soft yet deeply strong
Some poems were turned into song

But personal love eluded this poet
Filled with love but not bestow it
He sought someone that might also feel
And share deep devotion that was so real

Then like a flash of lightning came
To charge his heart with just her name
That he could not express his love...absurd!
But the poet thought not...a single word

But she knew all that he could not say
And true love has another way
No words were said no poem was needed
Love's feelings were what was heeded

The poet silenced...his pen was stilled
True love had conquered and had thrilled
They knew love that would last all time
And needed not...a line of rhyme
